It was about 7-8 years ago when Twitter gained popularity in many countries. I was a twitter user at that time but didn’t see Twitter addiction in India during that time.
There used to be verified people aka celebrities on twitter who were followed by a large audience. There were very few Indian Twitterers who were followed in masses. I used to think when will Twitter get popular in the country, will it get popular and how it will get popular.
Since last couple of years (2013-2014) it seems Twitter is trending in India. More people are active from the country and registering on it.
There could be few reasons resulting in more users of Twitter from the country. Celebrities from India joining Twitter, regular updates from Celebrities, Internet Penetration, Web Companies (Webpany) emergence in country, Users getting support from Webpany(ies) on Twitter, involving in latest social trending topic.
In next couple years it seems that more and more users from this land will be joining the webpany (Twitter) and regularly using it to follow, give updates and share thoughts. It would be more of a Thoughts sharing platform here. Thoughts on News/Updates and Company Products etc. Other use would be customer care where companies would have a Twitter Handle to announce updates and taking care of customer grievances. It can be place of sharing local news. These would be small small news from the local city and would have a limited audience. Coming to movies people can hashtag Movie names with ratings or yes/no followed by a small review which could be optional. A good way for getting quick movie reviews.
Still in a doubt if it could replace News Channels. Not completely but partially for instant news. It might take time for News channel to show latest news, a difference of seconds or minutes as compared to Twitter.
There would be many other methods which could be put to use with Twitter for benefit.
